Legislative Alert

The hunting community must remain vigilant to legislation that would impede or promote the pursuits we engage in. The following is a list of legislation of particuliar interest to CHC as of :

ACA11 (B. Berryhill, R-Manteca) would amend the California Constitution to establish the right to hunt and take game in the state. Status: Will likely be heard by the Assembly Water, Parks, and Wildlife on 23-MAR-10. Position: SUPPORT

The proposed changes to the 2010-2011 Mammal Hunting Regulations of interest to houndsmen largely focus on modifying the bear hunting regulations and can be found here. These proposals would include the expansion of bear hunting territory to include the Counties of San Luis Obispo, Modoc, Lassen, and Inyo, the elimination of the bear harvest quota (such that the bear season would be permanently established as ending on the last Sunday of December each year) or the increase of the quota to up to 2500 bears annually, the legalization of GPS and activity switches, and the decrease in size of the dog control zones. These proposals represent tremendous progress for the California hound hunting community in that they offer the promise of expanded bear hunting opportunities, enhanced hound hunting opportunities, and for the first time ever, the ability to use GPS that will provide us with an effective means of recovering lost hounds that will ensure that hounds are accorded the same level of welfare that is currently provided to dogs used to pursue upland game birds and waterfowl in California. If approved, the provisions would be effective for the 2010-2011 hunting season on July 1, 2010.

It is imperative that the every single person within California's hound hunting community contact the California Fish and Game Commission and urge them to adopt the proposals of the California Department of Fish and Game. Please use each and every communication method below to make your voice heard!
